Two high-standard models with excellent light-gathering power,

for bright, clear viewing

TOKYO, April 13, 2023-RICOH IMAGING COMPANY, LTD. is pleased to announce the addition of two roof-prism binoculars to the high-standard PENTAX S-series lineup, renowned for its excellent light-gathering power: The PENTAX SD 7x42 ED and the PENTAX SD 10x42 ED. They feature large, 42-millimeter diameter objective lenses and ED glass elements for effective compensation of chromatic aberration.

Incorporating large, 42-millimeter diameter objective lenses in a dependable, waterproof body, these new models deliver a sharp, high-contrast image even in unfavorable lighting conditions, such as in twilight. They also incorporate ED (Extra-low Dispersion) optical elements for effective compensation of chromatic aberration -- for the first time in S-series models -- to deliver a clear view of the image field rivaling that of upper-class models.

Main Features of the PENTAXSD 7x42 ED and SD 10x42 ED

1. Bright, clear viewing

As with PENTAX's top-end Z-series models, these new models provide sharp, high-contrast images with minimal glare and ghost images, thanks to the application of a full multi-coating process to all lens surfaces and a special coating designed to optimize light transmittance. They also feature large, 42-millimeter diameter objective lenses to deliver a bright, clear view even in unfavorable lighting conditions, such as in twilight. The PENTAX SD 7x42 ED features a large six-millimeter exit pupil, making it ideal for astronomical observation.

2. ED optical elements

As the first PENTAX S-series models to incorporate ED (Extra-low Dispersion) optical elements for effective compensation of chromatic aberration, these binoculars deliver a sharp, high-contrast, blur-free image of the subject.

3. Dependable waterproof construction for use in harsh conditions

Thanks to their dependable waterproof construction* (equivalent to JIS Class 6 standards for watertight designs submersible to a depth of one meter), these models can be used in almost all weather conditions, and can be easily rinsed clean with water. The nitrogen-filled design prevents the interior lens surfaces from fogging caused by sudden temperature changes.

* These models cannot be used for underwater viewing.

4. Other features

  • • Exterior housing made of thermoplastic elastomer resin to improve holding comfort and prevent accidental slippage
  • • Easy-to-operate diopter adjustment mechanism with a nonslip, ring-type adjuster
  • • Extendible eyepieces for effortless shift between in-use and storage positions
  • • Easy mounting on a tripod, in combination with the optional TP-3 Tripod Adapter
